Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) for Max Planck Institute

The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy in Heidelberg is part of a syndicate, which contributes to the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) in Arizona. The unique large telescope is being built in international cooperation, with partners from the United States, Italy and Germany. The Max Planck Institute for Astronomy is coordinating the German partners, including the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (Garching), the Max Planck Institute for Radio Astronomy (Bonn) and the Astrophysical Institute Potsdam.

CGB has designed components for a side arm, which serves as a carrier for an artificial light source for calibrating the image correction control, in cooperation with the Schlossmacher engineering office for structural mechanics. The high rigidity of the winding laminates, as well as the high production accuracy at CGB are hereby essential for coping with the demanding specifications of this compontent.
